Foreign trade of Jilin province increases by 39.9% in Q1

In the first quarter of 2021, Jilin province's foreign trade of goods rose 39.9 percent year on year to 40.41 billion yuan. Exports increased 19.8 percent year on year to 8.63 billion yuan during the period, while imports grew 46.5 percent to 31.78 billion yuan. In March, the province's foreign trade of goods reached 12.57 billion yuan, an increase of 19.6 percent. Exports rose 7.2 percent to 3.24 billion yuan, while imports grew 24.6 percent to 9.33 billion yuan.
The province's general trade increased significantly, accounting for more than 90 percent of the total. The import and export of general trade reached 36.72 billion yuan, up 42.3 percent, accounting for 90.9 percent of the total trade of goods of the whole province. The province's processing trade increased 23.2 percent to 2.84 billion yuan, accounting for 7 percent. In addition, the import and export of bonded goods grew 79.7 percent to 670 million yuan, accounting for 1.6 percent.
Foreign-invested enterprises took the lead in imports and exports, while both state-owned enterprises and private enterprises achieved growth in foreign trade. The import and export of foreign-invested enterprises reached 21.03 billion yuan, an increase of 37.4 percent, accounting for 52 percent. During the same period, the import and export of state-owned enterprises reached 12.17 billion yuan, an increase of 50.2 percent, accounting for 30.1 percent, while the import and export of private enterprises reached 7.13 billion yuan, an increase of 34.1 percent, accounting for 17.7 percent.
In the first quarter of this year, mechanical and electrical products drove the growth of imports substantially, and the import of agricultural products rose significantly. The import of mechanical and electrical products surged 52.4 percent to 27.03 billion yuan, accounting for 85.1 percent of the total import value of the whole province. Automobile and spare parts, as well as electrical equipment were the main growth points. Over the same period, the import of agricultural products climbed 50 percent to 1.42 billion yuan. Among them, 570 million yuan was for aquatic products, and 420 million yuan was for pine nuts, up 182.8 percent and 868.7 percent respectively.
