Eyes on development status of Jilin province’s agricultural industries with local strengths and characteristics

In recent years, characteristic food and cash crops have been widely distributed over Jilin province. As an important cash crop, peanut has been planted for many years, and its products have been exported to Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia. Jilin is one of the China’s main mung bean producing region, and its mung bean is the leading variety of characteristic beans. In 2018, "Taonan mung bean" was recognized as a national-level dominant area for agricultural products with local characteristics. The planting of potatoes has been widely distributed over the province with the characteristics of good quality and high yield per unit area, and the breeding and cultivation techniques of new varieties have always been in the forefront of the country. As of 2019, the province’s peanut planting area, sorghum planting area and potato planting area reached 3.465 million mu (231,000 hectares), 1.765 million mu (about 117,666.67 hectares) and 1.043 million mu (about 69,533.33 hectares) respectively.

In 2018, "Jilin Changbai Mountain black fungus", "Jilin Changbai Mountain Lingzhi mushroom", "Jilin Changbai Mountain shiitake mushroom" and other agricultural products with geographical indications were registered by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. In the same year, the regional public brand construction of "Jilin Changbai Mountain black fungus" was launched, and sixteen green production bases of black fungus were selected and recognized. By 2019, the province had established more than 300 production demonstration bases of edible fungus, with a producing scale of 3.26 billion bags and an output value of 15.69 billion yuan. The production of black fungus reached 2.8 billion bags, ranking second in China. Huangsongdian town of Jiaohe city and Tianqiaoling town of Wangqing county have become important distribution centers for black fungus in China.   
 
To date, the province has coordinated the regional layout of agricultural products with local characteristics based on the actual industrial development of all regions and has cultivated 98 regional public brands such as Shulan rice, Jiutai rice, Fusong ginseng, Wangqing black fungus, Taonan mung bean, Ji'an ginseng, Tonghua blueberry, Chagan Lake organic fish, Longjing cattle and Shuangyang sika deer, 180 corporate brands such as Dongfu Rice, Songliang Group, Gongzhuling Peasant Madame, Changchun Haoyue, Jilin Huazheng and Jingqishen, as well as 200 product brands such as Fuyu peanuts and Haoyue beef.
