On the morning of July 1, the Information Office of the Jilin Provincial Government held a press conference on the development of the China-ROK (Changchun) International Cooperation Demonstration Zone, and heads of the Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the Changchun municipal government and the demonstration zone introduced the relevant situation respectively.

Compared with many demonstration zones across the country, the China-ROK (Changchun) International Cooperation Demonstration Zone is established as a new height of opening up and cooperation that can effectively lead the implementation of the revitalization strategy of the northeastern region,  promote the revitalization strategy to align with the New Northern Policy of the ROK and boost the regional integration and development. With the strong ability of economic agglomeration and talent attraction as well as the advantages of location, foreign trade and cultural exchange over South Korea, Changchun city is the preferred region for South Korea to seek cooperation and development in China under the New Northern Policy.

The strategic positioning of the demonstration zone is to build itself into a pioneer zone of the regional economic cooperation in Northeast Asia, a pilot zone of the all-dimensional and wide-ranging cooperation between China and South Korea, and a new engine for the revitalization and development of Jilin province and even the northeast region. According to the principle of master planning and phased implementation, the demonstration zone, located in the northeast of Changchun city, is to form a spatial pattern of "one core, two wings and multiple parks".

The establishment of the China-ROK (Changchun) International Cooperation Demonstration Zone has received support from more than 20 ministries and commissions such as the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Commerce. The National Development and Reform Commission has incorporated the supportive policies issued by relevant ministries and commissions into the master plan for the China-ROK (Changchun) International Cooperation Demonstration Zone with 24 specific supportive policies in the categories of deepening the reform of systems and mechanisms, attracting and utilizing foreign investment, improving trade facilitation, implementing more convenient entry and exit measures, fiscal and tax, as well as financial system.

In the next step, the China-ROK (Changchun) International Cooperation Demonstration Zone is to focus on the overall goal of building a China-ROK cooperation platform, an internationalized platform for opening up and an innovation platform for systems and mechanisms to comprehensively start its construction work.
