Invited by Changchun Municipal People’s Government, Mayor Jorge Ramos Hernandez of Tijuana, and his economic and trade delegation arrived in Changchun on March 31, 2009. Officials from the two sides attended a sister city singing ceremony held early Wednesday morning at Shangri-La Hotel.
With a total population of about 2 million, Tijuana is the fourth largest city of the Mexican state of Baja California, situated on the U.S.-Mexico border adjacent to its sister city of San Diego, California. It is Changchun’s first sister city in Latin America.
Cui Jie, Mayor of Changchun, and Jorge Ramos, Mayor of Tijuana of the Mexican state of Baja California at the signing ceremony.
“Changchun has four distinctive seasons, and shares many similarities with Tijuana in geography and industry, etc. The two sides are able to expand exchange and cooperation in a wide range of fields. To have you as a city sister is of great strategic and pragmatic significance to the economic development of Changchun. We’ll plant a seed of hope in this spring by signing the agreement. I hope our exchange and cooperation in economy, trade and culture as well as in other fields will be strengthened,” said Mayor Cui Jie before the ceremony was held at Shangri-La Hotel.

A gift presented to the delegation.
